Hurricane Helene disaster relief work has been ongoing since its passing. Regardless, much work is needed to be done, especially considering the extent of the damages the hurricane has wreaked. Essential infrastructure, major highways, and housing all took massive hits in multiple states, all of which are still in the process of rebuilding. Georgia, which largely escaped the worst of it, still has areas that were devastated, such as Augusta. Hit very hard, over 200,000 people have lost power and many have lost their lives in this natural disaster, but the city is doing their best to recover in the wake of the storm.
Many steps have been taken in the road to recovery, but the process is long. As part of the recovery initiative, the City of Augusta is seeking qualified sub-contractors to assist with debris removal projects. Businesses that specialize in debris removal and emergency response are invited to be part of the contractor's approved vendor list. This will help clear destroyed buildings and debris from roads, giving the city a better idea on what needs to be fixed and give clarification on what needs to be done going forward.
In addition, debris clearing can help bring a sense of normalcy to residents. It is hard to recover from something as traumatic as this, but by clearing out debris and rebuilding, residents can instead look to the future for possibilities instead of what once was. Before any real changes can be made, however, the debris and destroyed remains must be cleared.
